The All India Induction Furnaces Association (AIIFA) Sustainable Steel Manufacturers Association convened leading stakeholders from the secondary steel sector for a two-part engagement on 14 November, 2025. The event combined an exclusive factory visit to Amba Shakti Group's state-of-the-art facility in Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh, followed by an industry interaction at Hotel Shangri-La, New Delhi.

Together, these sessions provided a platform for forward-looking discussions on sustainable manufacturing, regulatory reforms, and strengthening India's steel value chain.

Commitment to sustainability

At the Amba Shakti plant, the AIIFA delegation led by Paramjeet Singh, Director of NISST, and Yogesh Mandhani, President, AIIFA, was received by Kamal Goel, Chairman, Amba Shakti Group, and his leadership team.

During the tour, industry representatives experienced first-hand the companys proactive investments in sustainable production. Different initiatives reflect Amba Shakti's commitment to aligning with national sustainability benchmarks and emerging global frameworks on green taxonomy. Discussions highlighted how continuous compliance and process optimisation can accelerate India's shift toward low-carbon steelmaking.

Spotlight on sector priorities

The second leg of the event a high-level meeting in New Delhi brought together industry leaders, policy experts, and government representatives for a constructive dialogue on growth challenges and opportunities.

A series of presentations unpacked critical issues shaping the secondary steel ecosystem:

  • AIIFA's strategic roadmap and national industry outreach
  • Sector challenges and emerging opportunities, including raw material availability, cost pressures, and export competitiveness
  • Comprehensive GST matters, particularly compliance complexities in scrap trading and supply chain documentation
  • Energy efficiency, Green Taxonomy readiness, and quality assurance, aligned with global best practices
  • Government perspectives on policy support, digitalisation, and regulatory simplification

The key contributors to the discussion were V.K. Tripathi, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel, along with industry leaders Bimal Jain, Yogesh Mandhani, Mohit Kapoor, Paramjeet Singh, Pankaj Khetan, Mohinder Gupta and Sudhir Goyal.

The discussions also noted major developments such as the recent signing of INR 81,000 crore worth of MOUs for steel plant expansions in Maharashtra reflecting the sector's confidence in India's manufacturing growth.

Recognising leaders in green steel

As part of AIIFA's commitment to encouraging sustainable transformation across the industry, the association honoured eight companies with prestigious Green Steel Certificates.

These organisations demonstrated excellence in environmentally responsible production and operational efficiency across Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh.

Collaborative milestone

AIIFA's Factory Visit & Interaction meeting reinforced the importance of unified action between industry and government to navigate the evolving landscape of sustainable steelmaking. By bringing together leaders from operational, regulatory, and policy domains, the event strengthened collective efforts toward:
